I’m not gonna lie when Tamanna said she was going run a marathon I got a little jealous and had the desire to run one too, but I haven’t yet and I’m not really training for one but I hope to run one soon. The Top of Utah Marathon was Tamanna’s first Marathon and she ran it very well. She started up in Blacksmith Fork Canyon and continued downhill for 12 miles until she left the canyon and started the slight uphill towards Logan, Utah. I met her at the 18 mile marker and biked along side of her to give her support.
She was smiling when I first saw her and she seemed to be doing really well. Then as we kept moving towards the 20-mile mark her smile slowly changed into a face that was very straight and focused. She was telling me how hard this run had become and asked if I would run with her, so I biked ahead locked my bike to a bench and put my running shoes on. We ran the last 6.2 miles together and whatever time goals she had were thrown away. I soon learned she would be happy just finishing instead of trying to finish under a certain time.
Tamanna finally found herself at the finish line with a time of 4 hours and 25 minutes. Which to me looks like a perfect time to start a series of marathons. Tamanna told me that she wants to run 50 marathons by the time she turns 50. I like the idea and I hope to join her on as many of those marathons as I can!
